Landesgartenschau Competition, Ingolstadt, Germany, 2014

Eine Landesgartenschau, ist eine Chance für langfristige Investitionen in die Infrastruktur von unterentwickelten städtischen Gebieten. Beabsichtigt ist, die Natur zwischen den Immobilien erwachen zu lassen und ein offenes Netzwerk zu kreieren, dieses öffentliche Projekt soll den Lebensstandard erhöhen und eine bessere Lebensqualität schaffen die in naher Verbindung zur Natur und Kultur stehtAls Reaktion auf diese Herausforderung, bietet sich der Schanzer Park als hervorragenden Standort an. Durch sein stadtnahes Potenzial, kann ein Mikrosystem und Aussichtspunkte über der Landwirtschaft für passive Erholung geschaffen werden. In Verbindung mit der militärischen Geschichte Ingolstadts – die von Verteitigung, Vermessung und strategischer Siedlung gepraegt ist mit der Stadtmauer die aus dem 19. Jahrhundert stammt- das Projekt soll zusätzlich zu der Geschichte Ingolstadts eine andere  Landschaft formen um neue und verschiedene Bedürfnisse zu beruecksichtigen. In einem “Post-Event” bleiben die Formen der Ruinen und als Orte für die Gemeinschaft. Die Mauern schützen und formen die verschiedenen Verbindungen. Da der Waldgürtel wächst und dichter im Laufe der Zeit geworden ist, können neue Formen der Flächen entstehen–wie Plattformen, Wege und Schwimmbäder, die die benachbarten Gebäude und Geschäftszentren erreichen könnte. 

A State Garden Show is an opportunity for long-term infrastructure investment in underdeveloped urban areas. Intended to boost the economy of a place through real estate development and to increment the open space network, these public projects ground strategies for increased living standards associated with a lifestyle close to nature and cultural practices. Responding to these challenges, the Schanzer Park project emerges from the annotation of the site through its affordances and potentials in approximating residential areas, creating microclimates and providing vantage points over the agricultural land for passive recreation. In dialogue with the military history of Ingolstadt - one of surveying and defense which has grown concentrically from a medieval wall to 19th Century Ramparts - the project adds another layer of land forming as a landscape technique to accommodate the various programmatic needs. In a post-event scenario, these landforms remain as ruins or as places for the community. They shelter, protect and form distinct points of opening, release and connection. As the forested belt grows and gets thicker over time, the new form of the land with its platforms, pathways, grottoes, and pools will accommodate the expanding residential and working neighborhoods.

Zwischen Audi und dem kürzlich erbauten Westpark, sind noch immer aktive landwirtschaftliche Felder, ehemalige militärische Infrastrukturen, Wassergräben und Ackerland zu finden. Das Prinzip von Landwirtschaft wird mit eingebracht; mit lebendigen Wiesen und Bepflanzungen, Areale von Feldern werden mit Baumreihen gesäumt. Die vorhandene Windmühle soll den Fluss und den See in Bewegung halten. Von dem Hügel wird die traditionelle Altstadt, die Donau, mit ihrer Veränderung von Gegenwart und Vergangenheit sichtbar werden.
Die Gartenschau wird nachhaltig einen Fußabdruck hinterlassen um die Entwicklung anzutreiben in den vier Bereichen: Wohnung, Büros, Schule, Bibliothek und einen großen öffentlichen Bereich, der angrenzend an die Stadt führt und sich nur durch die Verkehrsinfrastruktur abgegrenzt.

Between Audi and the recently completed Westpark mall, the Garden Show is situated on farmland within still active farming fields and former military infrastructure, such as moats and forts. The principles of organic farming will be introduced; partitioned fields colonized with vibrant meadows and plantings, groups of fields will be bordered by thick tree rows. The onsite windmill will keep the river and lake in flow. From the mound, the traditional old city centre, the Danube and the changing face, past and present, of the city will be visible. 

The garden show will leave a lasting footprint on the development and evolve into 4 distinct areas; housing, offices, a school and library, and a broad public area that joins adjacent neighborhoods, once disjoined by traffic infrastructure.
